RO Christmas Shoot Cancelled

Since I wrote to you last with the results of the responses to my request for opinions about the Range Officers’ Christmas shoot held in January, a couple of things have become clear.

The majority of those who responded were in favour of carrying on with the Christmas shoot and dinner.  However, the numbers involved are pretty small and well below those needed to have it properly catered.  A lot of effort is put in to hold this day and the number of people is benefitting from it is decreasing.

Just to make matters worse, I have now heard from some of you who might have come and now cannot because of a clash of dates with another event.

In view of this, I have decided to cancel the 19th January as this seems the only thing to do.  I am sorry if this is a disappointment but I’m sure you’ll agree this is the sensible course to take.

On the positive side, this now gives us an opportunity to organise something else which I hope a lot more of you will be able to benefit from.  Please do let me have your thoughts and suggestions at the usual address (chris.farr@nra.org.uk).

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you all

Chris

National Rankings

National Rankings – A Proposal

Now that the end of the season has arrived thought it would be a good idea to look at what the ranking table would have looked like.

We have been asked for a ranking table for classics, Pistols & Revolvers in shorts, see no reason why not as these are shot at matches away from Bisley so plenty of chances to improve your scores. Maybe a National badge award if you are in top 50/20/10.

The leagues show best four scores in the past 18 months.

The proposal is to run a ranking for T&P1 & MT for SB, CF, Revolvers and Pistols as well as 1500 in both SB & CF starting in March 2013 with the last shoot being AAW. We will use the scores from graded matches over an 16 month time frame, which will mean that at the end of the season it will be scores from July 2012-Oct 2013.

Any more thoughts anyone

Here is an example

The Royal Mail and the Transportation of Firearms and component parts

The Royal mail is proposing to prohibit firearms and parts, including air-sun parts, triggers, and magazines from their postal service. This could have serious implications; the returning faulty rifles, triggers for service, buying spares, need I go on. Anything posted after November will be destroyed. Time is short;  submissions must be in by 17th September.

A Consultation Document has been published. Members of the public can respond to this document. Deadline for responses is: 10am Monday 17th September 2012.

With the royal mail producing 1st class stamps for all gold medal winners now is a great time to stock up on them. Clubs could buy years of stamps, which will only go up in value unlike money in a bank account. Have the pleasure for years to come reminding recipients of the shooting gold medal winner
