I only use the barrel hold technique on Bianchi Barracades. It is mega stable but not in the spirit of true handgun shooting. So a ban on barrel holding would make sense as the iron sight handgun shooters dont do it.
And would give our sport a more legitimate image when seen by international handgun shooters, even though we shoot with non standard handguns.
Would an international handgun organisation be interested in inviting us to shoot against them equally with LBR or LBP using a barrel hold technique? I think not.

The 1500 barricade is as john says double handed without the pistol touching the barricade The banchi barricade is free style and pistol can touch the barricade. That was the rules. We should I think keep to them.

I agree, Bianchi is freestyle but 1500 should be hands on the grip.

Yes I agree ted 1500 should be open sights we use to manage before the ban. Ted and john when will you be running the first course on the correct handling ! 🙂

Being one of the Old Timers, the wrap around the barrel was never “not allowed” as 1. to do so would cover the iron sights; 2. it wasn’t necessary with a max 6 inch barrel which did not wave around. Now we do have optics and 12 inch barrels to some it has become possible and for others, necessary. With LBR I have always used both hands around the grip and knuckles on the post with the skin shave to show for it. Showing someone recently the essence of barricade shooting it was just impossible to hold both hand on the grips because of small hands. We went on to develope an alternative grip which proved successful. It’s a great pity that the wording is as above. The addition of “so as to give definite support” would take away the over-zealous-penalty-spotting RO on occasions when fingers or thumbs merely touch the barrel. I’m more than happy to help any others with barricade work indeed any part of revolver shooting. One good thing about the pre ban days is that there were not many rules as there are now. Shoot left hand round the left hand side of the barricade and right hand round the right hand side of the barricade was all there was. The introduction and use of weak hand/strong hand recently will cause trouble (and did as I witnessed at the International Phoenix 2014) to a strong left handed shooter. Double handed gripping was not stipulated just eminently sensible. You could shoot 50m sitting (and any other) with one hand if you wished.
