Sad News of the Death of Alan Wragg
Many of you who have been in the shooting community for some time and have attended the Bisley GRAWs in the past may have known the well-known shooting figure of Alan Wragg. He was CRO on Melville Bay B at Bisley at the GRAWs – the Spring Action, Phoenix, Nationals and Autumn Action weekends – for many years where the precision matches tend to take place.
Sadly, Alan passed away on the 10th September 2025, after a long battle with cancer.
Pete Watts reminded us; those with long memories may recall that just before the Pistol Ban, probably in 1995, Alan was the initiator & driving force behind what he called the “Action Weekend”, this took place in October & consisted of Practical Pistol events together with what we now call “Shorts”. This was an entirely novel concept at the time & was very well received. Unfortunately soon after this came the Pistol Ban & this event got sidelined only to be later revived as the “Autumn Action” weekend but now for Gallery Rifle. So Alan deserves much credit for laying the foundations of both the Spring & Autumn action shoots. It is ironic that many will think of him as the Precision CRO when at heart he was very much a Practical / Action shooter.
Alan’s funeral has been arranged for Friday, 24th October, at 12 noon.
