Target Shotgun Rules

Target Shotgun

The Target Shotgun Discipline Representative, James Harris, has asked for the following clarifications of the rules to be published in the absence of a TSG rule book.

  • Scoring and procedures for the TS events will be in line with the GR&P rule book.
  • When not under the direction of an RO on the firing line shotguns are to be cased or racked. When transporting the gun from the rack to the line it is to be held muzzle DOWN with the action open flag inserted.
  • Muzzle angle restrictions will be as per GR&P rulebook or as directed in briefings.
  • The safety regulations and sanctions will be as per GR&P handbook.
  • Any shotguns that do not comply with the current Bisley Bible para 159 (i.e. .410’s) may be used provided they do not contravene the range regulations however the scores will not be published or recorded this year. N.b Muzzle loading shotguns will not be permitted!
  • Distances for disciplines will be in accordance with previous years, however subject to discussion they may be aligned with the other GR&P events to allow practice on home clubs at future events.

Gallery Rifle and Pistol National Championship Meeting

National Shooting Centre, Bisley 25th and 26th August 2012

The entry form for the Gallery Rifle and Pistol National Championships is now available for download via the link on the front page of the NRA website. The online is also available.

As well as the British Championship titles to be shot for, there is also the premier team match, the Gallery Rifle Home Countries National Match, which will be shot shoulder to shoulder on Melville late on Saturday afternoon.

Don’t forget to bring your Firearm Certificate and your competency certification card as you will be required to produce one or both before you can shoot.

Range Officers

Please let me know as soon as you can if you are able to help out at the Nationals.

As well as NRA qualified RCOs we also are very happy to have any other helpers, regardless of experience, to lend a hand. If you have not worked on a range crew before you will learn a lot and contribute to the success of the meeting

There will be a day or two prior to the meeting for ROs to shoot their events. Food and accommodation will be provided as well in line with the number of days you can give us.

Here is the link to the on line RO registration form. Please use it as it makes the process of collecting all the data much easier.

Eye protection

Eye protection is mandatory. Shatterproof glasses must be worn which provide adequate protection at the sides as well as the front. If they do not, you must use additional side protection in the form of slip on shields or similar.

New for this year

First of all, a new event which has been asked for by competitors – 200m Gallery Rifle. The course of fire is the same as the 200m centre fire rifle events – numbers 6380-6384 – that are in the meetings booklet right at the back. See the GR&P Booklet for the competition information.

The following events have already appeared this year in other meetings but are new to the Nationals.

  • Multi-Target 3 – a more challenging version of Multi-Target with a practice at 50m.
  • The Surrenden – an event for Gallery Rifle Centre Fire which rewards accuracy but penalises you for trying too hard – the longer you take, the more points are deducted.
  • Issued Rifle McQueen on Short Siberia – an issued rifle version using a Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout kindle provided by Ewen Campbell of Bench Grade Brands. A level playing field but no real excuses for scores under 50! The ammunition to be used for this event will be available for purchase on the firing point.

Jane’s Wicked Wheel

You’ll see this on the entry form for the first time. It’s a pool shoot on Stickledown with profits going to a charity for visually impaired shooters – B.U.G.S.  It’s quite a small organisation so your input can make a large difference. Your entry entitles you to two runs at the WW and you can buy as many more as you like at reception or on the range. (You must sign the declaration on the entry form and produce you FAC and competency certificate as usual.)

Hope to see you there.

It is with great regret and sadness that we have to tell  you of the death of  Alan Whittle who passed away on Sunday the 1st July 2012.  Alan was attending the Derby Open meeting when he was taken ill and collapsed.

For many years Alan was a regular at Gallery Rifle shoots throughout the country and was well known and admired by all.

He will be sorely missed by all his friends and shooting colleagues in the community – his death has come has a great shock to us all.  Our thoughts are with Alan’s family at this difficult time. RIP Alan.

The County of Wiltshire Gallery Rifle Open

Count of Wilts Open - 2102

Ash and Chris – Wilts & Open winners 2012

Taking a calendar slot in the season shortly after the Phoenix the Wiltshire open is usually an all day affair with up to 6 competitions being available in previous years. Due to range commitments from the military we had to settle for a Sunday morning outing this time out but still managed to squeeze in 4 events – T&P1, T&P2, Multi Target and a Multi-Target 3.

In the nine years this meeting has run we’ve never been rained on and this year was no exception. Believe it or not as the day progressed the weather got better. We have the photos to prove it.

Congratulations to Ash and Chris , Wilts and Open winners for 2012 (again!) . Full set of results available on the results pages.

See you all next year for the 10th anniversary shoot. Weather always guaranteed!

UK Gallery Rifle Leagues

The UK Gallery Rifle Leagues will commence at the first event after The Derby Open 2012  (The Welsh Open) and will finish at the Derby Open in 2013.

You do not need to do anything to take part except enter the events the league is offering – namely:

The 1500  -|-  Timed and Precision 1  -|-  Multi Target

The events listed above will be available to enter in the following gun types

  • GRSB
  • GRCF Standard
  • LBP
  • LBR

The four highest results throughout the year will be used to determine positions. At the end of the year the league will be split into appropriate classes – X, A, B, C, D as appropriate

Only individual UK scores will be used for the league – therefore no international match scores for 1500 will be considered.

All league results will be updated after every meeting and will be published on this website.

Chris Lewis

Chris Lewis

As the Phoenix meeting came to an end for 2012 we received the sad news of the death of Chris Lewis who passed away peacefully after his ongoing illness.

Chris was a regular shooter on the Gallery Rifle circuit, as was his wife Laura.  He was well known to many of us. He was also a member of the Welsh Gallery Rifle team and competed regularly at Bisley.

He will be greatly missed by all his friends and colleagues in the shooting community. Our thoughts are with Laura and family.

A justgiving page in Chris’ is name has been set up to enable donations to the Marie Curie Charity.
