Dave Meaby

Dave MeabyIt is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the death of Dave Meaby. Dave, former club secretary for Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Marksmen and the Welsh Gallery Rifle Club, as well as organiser for the Army (ATSC) Gallery Rifle Open competitions, sadly passed away on Saturday August 18th 2018.

Dave was a regular at many of our Gallery Rifle Open meetings at Bisley and often helped out as a range officer. In the last few years he was the face of Welsh Gallery Rifle shooting organising the Welsh GR Open in Haverfordwest – acting as Match Director, squadding administrator and stats processor.

2019 Imperial Competition for Gallery Rifle and Pistol.

Next July is the 150 years of the Imperial, the GR side has been asked if we as a group would like to do anything for this. I know this will only get to a few people who shoot GR, but the journal, web site and Facebook and word of mouth is all we have at present.

Some will have seen the posts, some fairly vociferous about changes we made to this years prize-giving for GR, it did not work as planned. Communication between e-mails and word of mouth produced different opinions and a different result to that envisaged . We learn for next year to cross the T’s and dot the I’s. To get some ideas for next year of what we could do that hopefully will involve a lot more GR shooters than the few that normally attend the Imperial we are holding a meeting at the army clubhouse on the Saturday evening of the Nationals at 6.00pm to get ideas. We want ideas for the competitions we could add and days to shoot over, not for just from those that already attend, but to bring more shooters into the event.

I also do not want it to be a discussion of prize giving and this years events, we need to work for the future for all GR shooters. If you cannot be there but have any suggestions, send them in to me at ted.george52@gmail.com, and  they can be looked at by those there.

Gallery Rifle at the Imperial

The GR section of the imperial starts on the 18th July and continues till Sunday inclusive, for those who have been before its a laid back mixture of medal competitions available every day which can be re-entered as many times as you have the ammunition to shoot, and trophy matches which happen on the Saturday and Sunday.

The details of what is shot can be found in the GR book and the ‘Bible’ I have attached the range plan for Melville so you have some idea of times and where to go.

Booking in and entry forms can be collected and handed in in the ‘coffee lounge’ at the back of Melvile so no need to hunt round the NRA offices

The 2018 Derby Open Meeting

FINAL Results for Derby now available

The Derby Open took place from mid day Friday 22nd June to Sunday 24th June

It was a record breaker with 114 competitors and over 1120 events being shot. It was fantastic to see 15 new faces, some completely new to the competition circuit.

I think you will agree that the prize table was excellent with numerous high value prizes to be chosen. This was mainly due to extraordinary support from the eleven sponsors who supported the meeting. It is worth mentioning them by name as they deserve our thanks and having confidence in our sport. Please support them in return.

The Home Countries International Match was won by Wales, congratulations.  England won the Pistol and Revolver matches. Winner team members were presented with Brownells medals.

A link to the scores is here.

The Man v Man LBP event was won by Gary “the Bullet” Bowden with Adrian Kwa second. The Man v Man rifle event was won by Jim Starley with Jake Mossom as runner up.

The Mini McQueen was won by Laura Warwick (using Jake’s rifle!)

The entry fees from these competitions and donations at the BBQ  raised £286 for the Air Ambulance.  Thank you for your generosity.

The Derby Open is a team effort and would not be possible without the 30 or so Range Crew who worked unbelievably hard over the weekend. Special thanks go to Team Smoothy for their help and not forgetting the guys in Stats who produced the final results in record time, and most importantly Pam & Mick on the BBQ.

We hope you all enjoyed everything, and the weather was OK too.

Jim
